Kait Waugh

Advisor | Entrepreneurship

SK Startup Institute

Kait grew up in Yorkton, Saskatchewan. With a love of plants that stemmed from a high school biology class, Kait obtained a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture with a focus on Plant Sciences from the University of Saskatchewan.

Upon graduation, Kait’s career saw her undertake various opportunities from raising trees and shrubs for a shelterbelt program, growing medicinal cannabis for the Government of Canada, and maintaining city parks and flower beds in both Regina and Saskatoon.

It was ultimately her love of houseplants that led Kait to her most unexpected career path yet; entrepreneurship. What began as a home-based business casting concrete planters potted with succulents and selling them at local handmade markets and pop-ups, slowly grew into a brick-and-mortar houseplant shop called Fat Plant Farm which operated in Regina for 5 years.

Having worn all the hats, as small business owners do, Kait is thrilled to be able to connect with fellow entrepreneurs and assist them on their journey. After all, it’s a team sport and best done with a supportive community cheering you on.
